You might think the weather, here in Glasgow, has taken a turn for the worse but it feels like the sun is shining down on our group at the moment as we open our group bank account just in time to receive our first successful funding bid payment, courtesy of Scotwest Credit Union, through their ‘Making a Difference’ scheme. A huge’ thank you’ to Scotwest for placing such faith and belief in our plan to help us to make a difference to the lives of adults with an ASC.
We will use this to make our Bellahouston beds more robust and begin to build raised planters and integral seating, making it safer for those of us who take a wobble from time to time, to access and work the beds. Some of the plans are influenced by Thrive’s space at the Geoffrey Udall Centre – a source of great ideas.
Also making a difference has been auticulturist Mark who planted our second early and main crop potatoes at Bellahouston and we’re all over the moon to have determined which polytunnel space is for our use – so we can soon hope to see through our windows back home again, as we begin to bring in our various seedlings etc. for our soon to be bountiful spaces.
We have joined the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens too – another really supportive group working closely with our friends at Trellis. So now we are ready to set up our sessions more formally and build the next stage, which will be to set aside time for our loved ones to let off some steam by getting closer to nature, so we all calm down a bit and enjoy life!
And now the rain is here – we get time to plan and relish the thought of the watering being done for us in a better way than can be achieved by any hosepipe – so our crops will thrive and flourish – as will our group – as will we all. Well done team, your work is already being admired! The picture above shows a gift to celebrate all your hard work – a wee Kiwi.
